Knowsley City Learning Centres have a comprehensive and competitive SLA offer available to all Knowsley schools. In addition, schools can purchase ad hoc sessions which can be tailored to meet individual requirements. Our website includes details and case studies of some of the activities we have delivered in the last year in addition to information about up and coming events.

Our termly Learning Technologies Forum is free to attend and aims to keep teachers up to date with the latest technological developments in the education sector. This event will focus on the use of iPads in the classroom and will include practical workshops providing the opportunity to use our iPads and highlight how they can be used in the classroom.

We know a lot of schools are already using iPads so here is a great free app we came across, you simply hook up an ipod or ipad to your interactive board and it measures the noise levels in the classroom. A great and colourful way of alerting learners to acceptable levels of noise and help teachers to keep control of noisy classes.

One of the most enjoyable yet time consuming tasks when you start using the iPad or iPod is exploring the App store. The App store is divided into categories but some of the best Apps for education aren’t in the Education category and take a little imagination to see how they can be used to support your topic or subject. Looking for those little gems can take hours, so Knowsley CLCs have created a starters guide to get you up and running.
This month marks International Children’s Book Day (2nd April) which is celebrated on Hans Christian Anderson’s birthday. The day aims to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children’s books. We are therefore giving learners the chance to bring their books to life using the power of films. Films provide a wealth of possibilities for teaching English topics and our activities are a great way to introduce ICT into your English lessons. Our main activity offers learners the opportunity to make their own movie based on a favourite book.
