Gifted & Talented
A
Vision for Knowsley’s More Able Pupils
In Knowsley we seek to foster a learning community which:
- Academic achievement is a source of pride for pupils, parents
and the wider community
- All talents are recognised, respected and celebrated
- All children of high ability, regardless of background, are
provided with opportunities to maximise their potential
and to become the
leaders and policy-makers of tomorrow
- Knowsley
schools’ are
perceived to provide excitement and challenge for their
most able pupils
Those children who, in general or in specific subject areas,
need more challenge than the majority of their
peers, should be regarded
as our more able pupils. Schools should provide
additional challenge for their more able pupils regardless of
the general level of
ability within the school. Pupils, whose abilities
are such that they are
operating several years ahead of their peers, should
be regarded as exceptionally able.
The Excellence in Cities Gifted and Talented Initiative requires
all schools to identify their top 5-10% of which at least, two
thirds should be gifted or academically able and no more than one
third talented, i.e. having marked ability in music, art, sport
or performing arts.
