Firm Foundations

The Standards Taskforce team was established to help address the issue of educational standards in Knowsley. In February 2008 via the Improving Standards Board the Firm Foundations programme was launched. The team’s first response was to seek innovative and complementary ways of supporting school improvement and raising standards, particularly in English and maths. In many ways the Standards Taskforce could be perceived as the forerunner to the Knowsley (National) Challenge Agenda.

Did you know?

The Firm Foundations Programme is designed to offer additional support to our pupils and schools in order for them to successfully achieve English and maths qualifications.

The programme is made up of three discrete elements including:

  • Revision materials, tools and techniques
  • Personalised Learning Opportunities for all including targeting pupils with the most need both in terms of addressing under performance and pushing excellence and;
  • Support and incentives for all children, families and their carers

The programme has introduced a range of innovative activities addressing academic aspects of teaching and learning while at the same time taking into consideration the more social and emotional factors, helping to provide a more holistic package of support that is personalised for each individual pupil.

Some examples of the activities that have been delivered are available here.
